How is Family Foundations different to other programmes?

Family Foundations is unique as it has been researched and proven to actually benefit children and families. Working with the couple in the perinatal period means the skills learnt can protect the couple from a reduction in couple communication and increase in conflict.

What about single parents?

Family Foundations is designed for couples to do together. If parents are not in a romantic relationship, but plan to raise their child with the support of someone else; the other parent, a new romantic partner, their own mother or father, they can use this program and benefit from it.

Is it universal?

Yes. FF is suitable for anyone expecting a baby, and would be particularly beneficial to couples expecting their first baby together. FF has been delivered to a wide range of parents, including LGBTQI parents. All families are different, but Family Foundations was designed for a wide range of families, and there is strong evidence to show that Family Foundations works for families with diverse backgrounds, resources, values.

Can it be delivered online?

Absolutely! And it works really well because the work goes on between the couple and doesn’t rely on them all being in the same room. Training includes delivering online and face-to-face versions.

How long do the benefits last?

Benefits of the program have been assessed in different randomized trials at different ages. In the longest-running trial, benefits were assessed several times between the time children were 6 months-old and 7 years-old. Positive results were found at each point in time.
